TACKLE REPORT

Tackle Report 2011

This year we continue to utilize the Shimano products with great success. The presentation and quality of their products are very consistent and we thank them for this opportunity to again put them to the test.

Blue water

I chose the combination of Beastmaster 701M spin 8 – 10kg rod with a Saragosa 6000F spinning reel with 30lb Power Pro braid.

I am again very happy, the rods are user friendly and very efficient and handle Tuna, Queenfish, Mackerel and GT’s with comfort, the reels are sensational, comfortable, good drag systems, plenty of strength, smooth to operate and allow long periods of casting poppers without fatigue.

Estuary

Baitcasters

Rods: Barra Magnum Raider 591 6 -10kg
Reels: Curado 200E5   what a great combo Light weight, plenty of strength, very easy to cast and handle some very nice fish with ease. I think here we have a perfect outfit for tropical estuary fishing, excellent.

Spinning

Rods: Raider Barra Flickstick 601 5 – 8kg together with the new Stradic C14  4000F again I think I have found a very good combo as with the baitcasters these are light, strong and a pleasure to cast. They handle themselves very well in every situation but in particular when casting and retrieving lures. I’m using a mixture of the Stradic and the ever popular Saros 4000F both are great reels.

Bait / boat rods

Gone back to the Beastmaster 601SSL  5 -8kg this hardy rod allows us to bottom bash and fish the snags with ease, the solid fiberglass tip making it a very user friendly rod. Again I have combined the Saros 4000F with these; they are a great little reel.

Fly Reel

Still using the Biocraft XT LA 910 still very happy with it. The advanced gearing and braking system together with the high quality one way roller bearing races gives you the security and comfort to know that whatever comes your way you can handle it.

Lures commonly used

Metals.30 - 40g (approx.) Raiders, Bumper bars
Barra:

  • Killalure Flatz Rat 11 (10ft bib) very good
  • Barra magnum
  • Gold Bomber

These are the tried and tested but there are hundreds as long as they have a good action and you place and work them in the strike zone you’re a chance.

Poppers: Again there are many the best for us “Smilin Jacks” good hardware and easy to use (you don’t get fatigued casting for long periods).
Deep Divers: RMG Scorpion mullet colour 90 -120mm, Tilsan, Rapala, Reidy’s, Barra Magnum etc etc. there are many but as long as the action and hardware is good, they should work. Colours of Blue/ Green/ red & white always good.
Plastics: Squidgies range very good & Snapbacks 4” paddle tail white also very good
As is the case for all lures must have an action and a good gig head (hardware) this is a great way to fish, remember slow retrieve let them sink a little and hang on.

Happy to discuss any of the above with you to help you enjoy to the full your day on the water.
