TACKLE REPORT

Tackle Report 2010

We are again very fortunate to be utilizing Shimano products this year and as expected with great success.

Blue Water

This year we have decided to stay with the very successful Starlo Stix 701 Snapper spin heavy  6 – 10kg rods, together with the Saragosa 6000F spinning reel.

This combination again proves to be very successful with the rods being hardy, light weight yet strong enough to handle large Queenfish, Tuna, GT’s and Mackerel etc. The saltwater designed Saragosa 6000F continues to work with ease, their excellent gear ratio and  drag system together with the comfort of long casting sessions ( unlike other makes which can be a real chore ) make our blue water fishing a pleasure.

Estuary

Baitcasters

This year we have chosen two different types of rod.

  1. Raider Barra Magnum 591 6 – 10 kg
  2. & the new Jewel  582 6 – 10kg

Both these rods are presented extremely well, lightweight with plenty of strength to handle our conditions.

We have combined the above with the ever reliable Curado 200E7 low profile reels, these reels are very user friendly and are a pleasure to use. Both outfits are highly recommended.

Spinning Outfits

Rods:
Jewel  662 Barra spin 5 – 10kg  beautifully presented rod, light weight, strong allows you to feel  everything, very impressive.

The proven T Curve Tournament 1.83m med spin 5 – 8kg this rod just keeps you asking the question how much more can it take, an absolute pleasure to use.

Eclipse 601 med spin boat rod 4 – 8kg (mainly for the live baiting occasions) a very hardy rod suited for this purpose.

Reels:
Again it’s hard to go away from something that just works so well ( why reinvent the wheel ) The Saros 4000F a fantastic reel which just keeps on going, we give them heaps and they just keep on performing.

Symetre 4000FJ we utilize these reels for our live baiting etc and again to date they have not let us down.

Fly
Biocraft XT LA 910

We continue to give these reels a real try out with good fighting fish such as Queenfish, Tuna, GT’s,  Barra etc and continue to be satisfied with the results.

Again presentation plays a major role with  advanced gearing, braking systems and the high quality one way roller bearing races give you the security and comfort to know that this equipment will stand up to what you dish out.

Lures commonly used:

Metals:
Bumper Bars 35g / Raiders 20 – 40g

Barramundi and general estuary lures:

  • Killalure Flatz Rats 2 (10ft bib)
  • Barra Magnum Med / shallow
  • Gold Bomber
  • Predatek spoonbill

There are many different types on the market most will work but it’s all about what YOU do with them that counts, as long as they have a good action and you have cast them into the strike zone , you are a good chance.

Poppers:
Smilin Jacks,  by far the best for us, good hardware reasonably priced and a great action.

Deep Divers:
RMG Halco Scorpion 90 & 120mm Mullet colour (very good) Rapala’s, Reidy’s, Tilsan, Magnum’s etc many different types again. Action & hardware very important, colours from Blue / Green / red & white should suffice; these will get you into trouble. Only need to go to 4m in depth.

Plastics:

Squidgies range good.

Snap Backs 4” paddle tail White in colour.

Here again it’s action and hardware that you need to be aware of,make sure the jig head is strong enough, there are simply a million on the market.  Many people are still not comfortable with using soft plastic’s there easy and very productive if used slowly and allowed to sink, give it a go it’s great fun.
